Cabinet Secretary Congratulates R&W Scott on Living Wage

Aileen Campbell, MSP for Clydesdale and Cabinet Secretary for Communities & Local Government, visited Carluke based R&W Scott this week to congratulate them on achieving Living Wage status. R&W Scott was accredited as a Living Wage Employer in May. This commitment saw everyone working at R&W Scott receive pay above the Living Wage rate of £9.00 per hour. This rate is significantly higher than the government minimum for over 25s, which currently stands at £8.21 per hour.

John Easton, Chairman & Managing Director at R&W Scott said: “Achieving Living Wage accreditation was one of our key priorities when we took over the business at the end of 2018 and is a fundamental part of our commitment to being a fair and responsible employer. We were delighted to host the cabinet secretary’s visit as we are extremely proud of our contribution to the local community.”

The business, which started out as a strawberry harvesting business before moving into jam manufacturing in 1880, employs 90 staff and was subject of a recent management buyout.  The business was purchased by the current Directors from Real Good Food plc in December 2018.

The cabinet secretary was also impressed by the “investment in their workforce and a clear commitment to the local area… loved seeing the jam getting made too!”
