Our journey spans many generations, dating back to 1873 when two enterprising brothers, Robert and William Scott, started harvesting strawberries. Today, R&W Scott proudly embraces its rich heritage and continues to prioritise quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. We remain committed to using high-quality ingredients, traditional recipes and modern manufacturing techniques to keep R&W Scott are the forefront of innovation.
The company was founded by Robert and William Scott in 1873. They initially started as a small fruit-harvesting business, planting half an acre of strawberries at Mashockmill Orchard. Fruit harvesting was practically unheard of until our founding father, Robert Scott, learnt his craft. The fertile soil and favourable weather yielded incredible results and the business took off from there.
After being family-run for over 5 generations, the Scott family sell R&W Scott to Hero. Complementing continued growth within preserves, R&W Scott introduced chocolate coatings to their product range which became their most popular product by the end of the 1980s.
R&W Scott was acquired by Napier Brown, who in turn become part of Real Good Food (RGF). This acquisition provided R&W Scott with access to additional resources enabling further growth and development. In 2005, Chocolate coatings represented a large proportion of R&W Scott's volumes.
R&W Scott invested significant capital in improving their site in Carluke, in Central Scotland. This investment increased focus on preserves; however, chocolate coatings are still the majority. R&W Scott were operating independently within Real Good Food (RGF).
R&W Scott completed a Management Buy Out led by MD John Easton, along with fellow directors Stephen Currie and Michael Hewitt. R&W Scott continued to prioritise quality, innovation and customer satisfaction. Focus was on core product categories including chocolate coatings, fillings, jams, sauces, spreads and speciality soft icing.
R&W Scott has restructured its board to build on the success of our MBO at the end of 2018. John Easton took up the new role as Executive Chairman of our parent company, Scotts Holdco, Stephen Currie stepped up from the role of Commercial Director to become Managing Director and Clare McNeil joined the board as Commercial Director.
